 I wrote the poem because I was made aware of bullying from quite an early age. I moved to Northern Scotland from Germany at the age of eight and my family immediately became the targets of bullying (even 'adult' bullies!) from another family in the street.
This was due to 'traditional' negative beliefs about Germany and the war etc. so we became associated with that belief just because we came from Germany. I think this is really sad that some people are targeted just because they come from a certain place.
Even if the bully beats you up - you are still the stronger one - you should always remember that you are not the one with the problem - it is the bullies that have the problem. Everybody deserves a chance in life. Everybody has a right to be where they are. SLAM - Against this wall of dread I'm pushed, I'm the victim of the day, I wonder if I shall survive as the bully attacks me like prey. SLAP... and HIT... and KICK... I will die today I'm sure But this wall of dread I'm 'resting' on' may prove to be my cure. And whilst this 'eagle' picks unfairly at my skin and my existence - I realise I'm the stronger one for understanding that this bully is weak and insecure. I think of this Even at the final BANG. |
